I’m Douglas Lucas, a writer and tutor in Fort Worth, Texas, and this is my blog, Babel Krieg. The blog isn’t really centered around any one specialized topic; instead, I post about things I wish I knew yesterday — stuff I couldn’t find enough about anywhere else and wish someone else would have posted. So expect diverse and interesting content!
Why the name Babel Krieg? Well, Babel is the Hebrew Bible’s name for the ancient Mesopotamian city-state of Babylon. But I’m thinking more of, not just the Douglas Adams character Babel fish who can translate all languages, but also the Tower of Babel mentioned in Genesis.
According to the Biblical account, mankind, who at that time spoke a single language, pridefully built a tower toward the heavens. The blog’s main page presents posts in a growing vertical column — a sort of tower. Perhaps the blog’s just a bunch of babble — but it’s also a Krieg (German for “war”) of babble marching upward and upward. And that’s a good thing.
